Empowering Technical Teams: The Journey from Engineer and Researcher to Coach
Hi, I’m Toni, a PhD with two decades of global experience in thermal energy storage having worked in world-renowned institutions such as MIT, CIC Energigune, Masdar Institute, and NTU. Throughout my career in scientific and technical environments, I noticed a critical gap: intermediate research staff often lacked the leadership skills needed to fully support and develop their teams.
This pushed me to take on mentoring roles, helping colleagues solve technical and personal challenges to achieve their best performance. My experience showed me that effective leadership is as important as technical expertise.
I believe that scientists and engineers, just like corporate leaders, need coaching to develop self-awareness and lead themselves and their teams more effectively. Research environments can benefit from the same kind of leadership transformation seen in industries: focused on personal growth and team synergy.
During the COVID lockdown, I transitioned into coaching, working with professionals to develop leadership based on self-awareness, improving decision-making and enhancing team motivation.
